The multipurpose bin lives up to its name — versatile and adaptable for, dare I say - multiple - purposes! In this blog I will share ways Tailored Organizing has used them, shedding light on their practicality and the advantages they bring to creating an organized and calm environment.
THE MULTIPLE ADVANTAGES
Advantage 1: reducing visual clutter
I LOVE using these bins particularly in craft rooms and garages where there tends to be an abundance of oddly shaped items. Items that are similar in nature, but don’t fit well inside other type bins because of their variation in size.
By gathering these oddly shaped items into multipurpose bins, we effectively eliminate visual clutter. Previously, these items would be scattered on shelves or stuffed into cabinets, creating a chaotic scene. The chaos forces our eyes to dart around, taking in all the items at once, which can overwhelm our brains. Our brains naturally seek order, so when confronted with a messy pile, they must work harder to make sense of it all. However, when these items are neatly contained in multipurpose bins, our gaze remains focused, creating a much calmer and more peaceful environment. Yes, please!
Wrapping Station
As you can see in this photo, there are different sizes of shirt boxes. Storing them upright within a multipurpose bin not only helps our clients to easily find the box they need, but it also allows them to keep track of the quantity they possess. Lastly, this method neatly corrals the boxes, therefore minimizing visual clutter.
Advantage 2: durability
Multipurpose bins are made of polypropylene which is very durable and -bonus- easy to clean! Polypropylene is renowned for its exceptional durability due to its unique chemical composition. Polypropylene’s chemical composition is highly resistant to physical damage, such as abrasions and impacts, and can withstand many harsh environmental conditions without deteriorating, maintaining its integrity over time. So, these bins can be used in places like fridges, freezers, and garages!

It’s important to be safe when working in your garage, as you can see here we’ve used the multipurpose bins to create a safety station where our client can easily access their safety supplies.

As I enter my third year as a professional home organizer, I have noticed that there are different stores who have their own version of the multipurpose bin. I used to find them only at the Container Store, but now Target’s Brightroom and Walmart’s Mainstays lines offer multipurpose bins, which shows me just how popular these bins have become! Because they’re awesome! This also makes them more accessible to you! Instead of having to order online from the container store and/or driving a far distance to it (unless you’re lucky and live in close proximity to a Container Store…I live in Salem, OR and ours is a 45 minute drive away) you can pop on over to your local Target or Walmart and snag yourself a few. Huzzah!
